Apart from noticing the obvious health benefits of low sugar, one of the most enjoyable things I find to going lower sugar is just trying out new meal options and experimenting with myself. If you have signed up to receive my weekly Happy Sugar Habit update, you will notice one is linked to getting more savoury breakfasts on the go. Read on for a healthy savoury breakfast option I think all should try (unless you don’t like eggs or avocado!).
Trying something new
Reading health blogs is a great way of getting new ideas for new interesting meal combos and practical recipes. One of my favourite blogs is Keeping Healthy Getting Stylish by Laura Agar Wilson. I had noticed one of her breakfasts – a scrambled eggs and avocado number – which I thought I would give a go and personally review.
This was a big change for me as I have traditionally always had cereal, oats, toast or some sort of carbohydrate for breakfast to fill me up when I am most hungry. Breakfast has always been my favourite meal of the day and I am normally ravenous for it. I am running 3-4 times a week at the moment about 3-6miles each time so I feel my body burns through the fuel, especially if that run is first thing.
In addition to being quite delicious, I was pleasantly surprised how full this kept me, I didn’t get the urge to snack all morning and I lasted through to a later lunch than usual. Initially after eating I did have an initial craving for something sweet or carb-like but I managed to kill that with a cup of Earl Grey tea. Avocado is technically a fruit but it’s the lowest sugar fruit out there and is full of nutrients and good fats, not to mention is creamy and satisfying.
Needless to say I will definitely be having this again when I have a long morning in store. It’s great when you discover something that you enjoy that is an easy healthy shift in the right direction. I plead you to give this a try and see for yourself.
Have I done an awesome job at convincing you to try this or does my breakfast look totally unappealing? Please let me know. The least I can do is improve the pictures!
