Loving the site - Thank you. What about fruit? I mean actual unprocessed fruit rather than dried etc. Obviously it is high in sugar but I have always felt that you can eat as much fruit as you like. That is fairly self limiting anyway as it fills you up. Then there is the mother of all fruit - the banana!!! Isn't that soo full of goodness it is bad?

Hi Paul, Thanks for the comment, glad you like the site. Fruit is an interesting one - yes fruits have a lot of nutritional benefit and do play part of a healthy diet. However they need some moderation as they do contain fructose which at the end of the day is still a sugar that is converted quickly into glucose and will raise blood sugar quickly (even the unprocessed fresh variety) It's generally recommended to eat 1-2 portions of fruit a day and make up the rest of your '5 a day' (which should be more like 7 a day) with vegetables. Also note that some fruits are higher in fructose than others, so a banana or a mango is high whilst berries are on the lower end of the scale. So a banana every now and then for variety is fine, but you should be aiming for lower fructose fruits more often. Hope that helps. Laura

Hi Laura, Loving the site. Especially like your blog on Breakfast cereal love. Just a quick one. I love a cuppa tea with my breakfast but cannot have it without sugar. From the title of your blog im guessing this isn't a good thing - any ideas on the best substitute? Gemma x

Hi Gemma, Apart from the obvious sweetener there isn't an easy substitution. Honey maybe but having been a no sugar in tea girl through and through I wouldn't know if that would just taste a bit strange lol. My best suggestion would be to gradually make the amount you put in the tea smaller so your taste buds start to adjust to it not being as sweet. One teaspoon is about 4g so in the grand scheme of things if you're only having one cuppa then it's not to bad. If you're having 5-6 then it's going to add up! Laura
